About Us

In 1931, at the age of 16, Dwight ‘Red’ Harkins rode out of Cincinnati on a Harley-Davidson, determined to seek his fortune in Hollywood. Lucky for movie and popcorn lovers, Red never made it to Hollywood. Settling in Tempe, Arizona, he used every cent he had to open the first Harkins theatre, a single screen movie house in 1933.

With a dedication to showmanship, popping delicious popcorn and providing the Ultimate Moviegoing® experience, Harkins has grown to be the largest independently owned movie theatre company in the U.S. We’ve taken our passion for popcorn (which is frankly excessive) and created yummy, flavorful recipes.
